I've just started a new job at a place called 7 1/12 John Wood Street. I think it deserves a whole new blog in fact. Thats how exciting it is.

I'm what is called the Arts Assistant, and basically my friends I am in charge of designing a 90 page published book on the History of Morton FC. There will be 7000, yes, seven thousand copies of this book printed. I am excited.

New blog will follow soon, along with a project blog for the Morton Project.

I'm so busy it's amazing :)

It's finally happened, I have handed in all of my work for my last ever year of BA(Hons) Graphic Design. All that's left to do is one shiter of an essay for Mr Darren Connor, and get prepared for the exhibition show.

The countdown has begun until I vacate Carlisle FOREVER. It is 23 days I believe until I will be home sweet home.

I've been at home for 6 days now, and tonight Joe will sleep over and then drive us back to Carlisle in the morning. I've been super happy this last six days, and I really am starting to get excited about moving home finally. There's about 12 weeks to go in total I think? 10 weeks til the end of the semester then 2 weeks til the end of the exhibition I reckon? However long it is, it's not too long.

When I get back to Carlisle, major diets are beginning. Special K twice a day. No Jimmy Watts, please. No KFC, please. Once a week I can have something bad, but I won't cave in for anything other than Shanghai, Shanghai ♥.

I'm going to Blackpool Pleasure Beach on Saturday with Joe Joe, which should be funny as he's terrified! I can't wait, I didn't go to Alton Towers or anything last year because the chance just didn't come up as I was super busy. So this year hopefully we'll do Alton Towers too.

Home Is Always The Best

I've been home since Friday night, and I'm already feeling a million times happier than I was on Friday morning. I spent Friday night at Joes house and played with the puppies for a while and had a pretty sweet night. On Saturday we chilled at my house and watched some tv with my mum, and on Sunday we watched the Old Firm game with my dad, which was a drama. Followed by a cinema date to see Everybodies Fine, which is an absolutely awesome film!

Today while Joe's at work, I thought I'd try and get some more ideas on screen for Alice in Wonderland. I did just that and here's a progression of pictures of my days work!

Productive day so far I'd say, considering it's only 2pm.

I can't wait to be home forever. Not long to go ♥

My hair is growing at an alarming rate and hadn't been touched by a hairdresser for a good few months so last thursday I went to get it dyed. I didn't get it cut cause I want it to grow grow grow, however I got some little blonde bits put through it as the last time I d.i.ye'd it I dyed over my blonde bits and almost cried myself to sleep!

So today was basically the most productive day of all time for me. I finished my dissertation, woop! I ended with something around 6500 words, which was way above my target, so I'm pretty pleased/astounded. I am around 60% through with my referencing, and will finish that off on Monday morning!

After I finished that I went back to messing around with some ideas for these Comedy Film Posters. Here's what I've done in the past half an hour:

Lately I've been feeling super stressed about about uni and everything in the world about it. I've been missing home loads, and missing my boy, and missing his puppies and the babies and that entire household! I've been missing my mum & dad loads and have been a bit of a disaster and ignoring my work and everyone quite a lot.

Today I'm feeling quite better, now that my dissertations out the way I have time to focus on everything and everyone else that I've been doing without. I think things could be getting better?

I can't wait for summer to come. Even Spring is going to be super welcome!

I can't wait for shorts and tshirts and no jackets & albert taking his top down and sunshine and picnics and trips to Largs and Loch Lomond and Keswick and the Lakes.

Summer is going to be epic this year ♥

Messing Around :)

I've been messing around unsuccessfully all morning with layouts for a poster. We had a brief for a Horror Film Festival, but I have rewritten it to be a Comedy Film Festival instead as I simply can't bring myself to watch any scary films, and all the ideas I had would have only been possible if I'd actually watched one. I really can't bring myself to do it! So instead, it's a Comedy Film Festival, and that's much better for me. I plan on doing a few posters, with certain words being spot varnished (thanks to Jen D I can now do this!). Hopefully. That's the plan anyway! But for now, I must continue with my dissertation and leave this for a while!

Designing book covers for a series by the well known author H.G Wells. I decided that since he is so famous that his name alone would be a big enough deal to get the books selling. So I have made them a set that will go in a box, with the spines aligning to spell out the authors name. These are a few ideas and a tiny made mock up of what it could look like, without colour though!

International Society of Typographic Design

The fourth project of third year involves live briefs from the ISTD. There is a choice of five briefs; Imbalance, Channel X, 100, True Stories: True Geographies and The Train Standing at Platform Two. Out of these I had it narrowed down to The Train Standing at Platform Two, True Stories: True Geographies and 100. I've now further narrowed it down & have finally decided on 100.

This brief requires you to interpret the number 100. They want to see "an innovative idea that not only intrigues us but also informs us." This can be done in any format that is appropriate for the subject matter we choose & our intended target market. We could create a timeline in broadsheet, a time-based piece, a website, a series of booklets/leaflets, aprt-work or a complete publication containing all the content. I've been thinking about the last two options.

This was a pretty productive day for a Monday. Hand in was for 4pm. I was in uni for 8:30am patiently awaiting Reprographics to open it's doors. Then once printed, there was evaluations to be written up, then finally handed in in 3 separate folders. Then it was home time for some lunch, and a fresh sketchbook out with a fresh head for the start of the new brief. Many many ideas were drawn up to start me on my merry way!

We're on to our 4th brief of 3rd year and things seem to be going past super fast. I can't help but start to get excited about Christmas, which is now only 6 and a half weeks away. I can't believe it's so soon. Then after Christmas I can only imagine how fast the last half of third year is going to go by, and then what? I can't wait to be out in the real world, and actually earning some money to save up for some exciting things that I want to do.

This weekend and the past few have been pretty wonderful, thanks to a boy who works on real life transformers and can make better fairy cakes than I can.

My mailer consisted of a lovely little metallic grey simple box, containing the above A3 poster, and a set of cards giving a little teaser of my wonderful typeface! This was apparently pretty good and my pictures got quite a lot of praise which was awesome. Here is how the little cards looked in the end:

Major Failage at owning a phone.

I have just dropped my Nokia E71 in the bath. I can't even begin to describe how distressing this is as this is the second time I've had to get that phone because I lost one before already. It's being majorly tempramental and is working sometimes and other times is basically just refusing to do anything that I need it to do. I actually almost cried when I saw it lying at the bottom of the bath as I had no idea that was what had fell in. I think I am just not meant to own one! My mum is super angry as she had to get me that one & they cost like £300 to buy and now I have broken it already! My dad is going to go mental when he hears and it's just disastrous.

After it happened I blew dry it with the hair dryer. It worked a bit. Then it stopped making and recieving calls after which I put it on the radiator. It's now still on the radiator & I managed to make a call but the screen is all steamed up with water & I'm slowly getting upset about it again.

Please lets not make this our goodbye E71. I love you ♥

We just got the internet on in our new house and it took almost two weeks, we were going a bit insane tonight when it came on. It was wonderful. It has proved to be a terrible distraction though ever since it went on & has stopped all the experimental typography that I should be doing! What a shame.

So I've decided that I need to blog more. I did a lot before, and then ofcourse I was gone for like 4 months so I couldn't really get online enough to blog, but now that I'm back I plan on making up for it majorly! I vow to blog at least once a week, if not more. This shall begin NOW and will undoubtedly get way more exciting once I'm back in the Lizzle and designing again! It's dissertation year, scary stuff guys. I'm a bit terrified but I'm quite certain it will all work out super in the end, even if it's depressing during the writing process.

I miss designing so much. I feel like a little lost soul with no time to do anything. America was amazing and being away was awesome, but now that I'm back I need to get back to doing what I enjoy, and that is not packing; which i have been doing all freaking week. Uncool.

I'm seeing my super awesome friend Ayden on Friday. We're gona chillax in Glasgow and do some shopping. I missed her a whole bunch when I was gone. Lots to talk about when I see her!

Last night Jamie & I stayed in the Marks hotel in glasgow for fun. We got a bit trashed & watched Britains Got Talent. Then we made ourselves look lovely & went out in search of more drink. Glasgow was like, dead? We ended up in a dodgy wetherspoons drinking as fast as we could to get drunk & then headed back to our lovely room. When we were drunk I managed to convince Jamie to come see Hannah Montana: The Movie with me, so off we went after we checked out.

It was AWESOME ♥

I'm pretty much in love with Miley Cyrus? I can't seem to help it and I accept that it makes me a total loser. Freakin Hoedown Throwdown.

Summer

I've moved home for summer and it's been wonderful so far! I've been spending some time with a pretty awesome boy and stuff

It's 20 days til I fly to America for my epic summer of fun. I'm starting to get a bit scared, and I'm worried about missing people, I just hope it's all worth it!

I'm actually in a bikini, and have been sunbathing in my back garden all afternoon. Who would have thought the Port could provide me with such glorious weather? It's pretty freaking awesome!

Recently I've been a bit unmotivated when it comes to uni work. Like, I'm actually so so disappointed with my Map that it's making mea bit of a depression session. I've never disliked something that I designed as much as I dislike my map, and theres nothing I can do about it now cause it's hand in time. I've had a whole crappy bunch of shit/drama going on at home & for once am actually glad to be living here and not there. It's proper distracted me and I'm gutted. I'm not expecting good things to come of this mapping disaster.

I need to cheer up for my art direction. I have some really good photos. Hopefully I can get my design hat back where it should be.

Lauren and I have just come back from the cinema. We went to see Marley & me, and it was pretty immense. It made me think I should have a post about Laurens dog Rocky and my puppy Yoshi. Rocky was pretty amazing really. The first time I saw him he was super fat and had to go on a doggy diet. But he got skinny and he was lots of fun after that. I took him walks and stuff and we had good times at Parklea when Lauren moved house and I doggysat.

Then there was Yoshi. Boydy and I got him and it all started to go wrong after that and when Boydy lost his house, we had to give him away. It was probably the worst day ever. He was the best little puppy in the world, and the mornings I spent asleep on the matress on the floor with him were probably the best mornings ever. He was a cheeky little thing, but he was super awesome.

I miss them both lots. Here they are when they met for the first & only time ♥

It's been a while since I wrote a proper blog post, about real things and not just uni work. I've just got back to Carlisle, it was Boydys birthday yesterday. Me, Lyndsey & Martin threw him a surprise party since it was his 21st. It was a pretty amazing night, and he was really happy. He totally had no clue whatsoever that practically everyone he knew was in on it except him.

Every time I get back here from being home I go into a total depression session. It's just that my house at home is so super and it's warm and my mum & dad are so awesome, and then I come back here and it's freezing cold in my house and I feel so alone sometimes. It's silly because I know Lauren is, like, a room away from me, but sometimes it's not enough I guess. I miss Boydy and days when we would just randomly go to Largs or Loch Lomond. And day trips to random places in the car. I feel like there isn't anyone here that I can do that with and I don't really know what's around here to visit.

I'm trying to look at things in a positive way. Such as in 19 days my good friend Ayden is coming down here and we are heading to Newquay for 4 days of surfing and catching up. Then I'm driving straight home from there on the 9th of April. After that I come back here on the 20th. After that I only have like one proper week left at uni, then hopefully my assessment will be in the beginning of May and not the second week. Then I can move out of this hellhole and summer can begin!

I just feel like having a little bit of a moan, Im not going to lie. My weekend was a bit disastrous, but still equally amazing. It was an odd one. But this Grow Your Own thing is getting me down! I'm nowhere near where I should be by now, and everything I do is just a round about way of staying off the computer and changing my mind. I've maybe done a total of 4 days work since we got the brief, which makes me a bit of a douche, and it's my own fault that I'm not getting anywhere. But, I just can't get into it? Packaging has never appealed to me in any way. Neither has planting fruits and vegetables. It's an awful mix.

I'd like for it to be over soon thanks, and give me something else to do that I can moan about.

2009 is pretty much sorted already ♥

So it's the 5th of January, and I'm already feeling like 2009 has got the potential to be the best year yet. Everything seems to be gradually getting better and better, which means something bad has to happen soon, but for now it's looking pretty sweet.

In April I'll be making a trip to Newquay with my good friend Ayden Millar. The general point of this trip is to get our surf on! Which means I will be learning, and she will be laughing at me for she knows just how to go about it already, the swine. I'm really looking forward to this because I miss her and she's proper amazing, so it will be awesome to just chillax with her and y'know, catch some surf.

Then comes May, when 2 fantastic things will happen. First, I will (hopefully) have finished and passed 2nd year. Which will be pretty lovely in itself. Then on the 31st of May, something even better shall begin! This is the day I arrive at YMCA Camp Letts of Metropolitan Washington DC to start my summer of awesomeness as an Arts & Crafts counsellor, specializing in Advanced Art. The Camp is in a place called Chesapeake Bay, and is surrounded by water on 3 sides. This is probably going to be the scariest, hardest, toughest and most rewarding thing I've ever done in my life and I cannot freaking WAIT ♥.

I'll be finishing up camp 11 weeks later, on the 15th of August. Around this time I'll head back to New York City where I'll spend a lovely week shopping and being a tourist and feeling like I'm a bit too lucky. Then I guess I'll head back home.

Probably be home for a week before I head off to Benalmadena for a quick weeks holiday before coming back to the joy that is Carlisle to start my last year of my degree.

Then, as we all know, it's CHRISTMAS!

So yeah, book cover project. Academic Series and Fiction/Non Fiction. For the series I done 4 books to show how it would work with more of the titles in the series. Theres a few chages to be made that I haven't gotten around to yet, but when I handed in, I chose these:

For the other book I chose the Non Fiction book, Potty, Fartwell & Knob: From Luke Warm to Minty Badger - Extraordinary but True names of British People. To be honest, longest title EVER! Umm yeah so this was my idea :) They really loved my idea and photo, and especially my back cover. I just have to change my main title font on the front and spine, and make the centre justified stuff be not centred :). Super!

Also, for some reason, it's missing the authors picture on the left hand bit :) I'll fix that for my website.

Lunderston Bay

Lunderston Bay is a pretty sweet little beach near where I live. In summer we have bbqs here and it always seems to be busy. Also at night time people go here to get naughty in their cars, or so i've heard! There's also a little play park which is pretty awesome. It's the closest sandy beach to Glasgow, which is probably why it is so popular.

I went there today since it was a pretty awesome day weather wise and brought my wee lomo sampler camera with me to take some photos. I was having a pretty awful day, so the pictures were the only good thing to come of today.

Yesterday I went to Glasgow for some Christmas shopping with my good friend Boydy. We had done most of our shopping and were just wandering around when we came out of a shop called Papyrus and Boydy said to me, UMM I think, umm nvm. I was like, sorry what? And he said that he was pretty sure he just saw Billy Boyd, who plays Pippin in Lord of the Rings, just go into Papyrus. I told him that surely it wasn't but we went back to have a look and we basically just stared in amazement at him until his girlfriend started laughing at us.

It was truly amazing. I love LotR so much, and to see him just walking around the shops like a normal person was absolutely wierd as hell but ridiculously amazing! I do quite love him ever so much. It made my year ♥

Holidays are coming.

So it's the 13th of December, less than 2 weeks until Christmas, and I am really looking forward to going home. It doesn't really feel like Christmas down here, although we have a Christmas tree and I have fairy lights in my room, it's just not the same. I can't wait to go along my road and see my house at the top of the driveway, covered in Christmas lights, with a light up Santa on the shed. And the Christmas tree in the bottom living room, and the little Santa just inside the door, with the lights on the stairs. Then I will know it's Christmas.

Thinking about going home for Christmas is making me pretty homesick, so I am really hoping this week goes super fast, and if we didn't have tutorials on Thursday I'd be off on Wednesday morning, bright and early! But I guess I will just have to suck it up and stick it out :) Can't wait to see my mum, dad, brother & nephews. And Bernie and Boydy and my Gran.

It's going to be a super Christmas, I can feel it.

Splish Splash

For this brief I decided to do a set of 4 posters, one for each venue that the event is being held at. I wanted my posters to show that the knitting and stitching show is actually quite an artistic event, with bright, vivid exhibitions. I wanted the name of the show to be an afterthought, and for people to be interested in the image before they had a chance to be put off with the event title. Here is just a teeny screenshot of my posters. A proper post will come soon with my 27 page Information booklet that I made to go along with the posters.

I came across an artist called Justine Ashbee the other day when I was looking at an old news story about a man who decorated his basement with something like $12 worth of sharpie pens. She actually creates some pretty awesome work with just sharpie pens. Just thought I would put one of her images up here cause I think they are just splendid, and looking at them makes me smile.

The Knitting and Stitching Show 2008

Yesterday I drove to Harrogate in North Yorkshire to attend The Knitting and Stitching Show to help me with the third brief. The brief is to design a poster to promote the event itself. The Show was seriously amazing, there was so many different stalls and exhibitions, and demonstrations going on in 5 different halls. I spent over 5 hours in there just wandering around amazed.

I learned to knit from the Uk Knitting Guild, I think thats what they were called, and they taught me all sorts of stuff and gave me materials for free to keep on knitting. I thought that was particularly awesome! I spent quite a lot of money on materials I'd never saw before such as Angelina Fibre, which I'm thinking about using somehow in my designs. Also I purchased a Cyanotype(sp?) kit, to make blueprints in the sunshine, which I'm also thinking of using! And also a few different postcards and photo sets from some of the exhibitions that I really enjoyed, which have already given me some inspiration!

Overall I think it was one of the best ideas I've had in a long time. It was really beneficial to this brief as it showed me so many different parts of the show that I would never have found on the website. I also took over 200 pictures!

It was a good day all round.

So I was asking Robbie how one goes about making the top part of your profile not be gay and bog standard, and he showed me how to upload your own foto. But he didn't get round to telling me how to take off the border or anything. Somehow stored in my brain is how to work html, and i figured it out all alone, and figured out how to change all the colours. I feel proud of myself! I'm quite pleased with how it looks now.

I hate how my blog looks. I have decided that I need to work out how to get something else at the top instead of that stupid box thing. It's proper ugly and it's making me feel quite disgusted and not want to post on here. How silly.

We got our marks for our corporate ID project back, and i got 62%/2:1 which is alreet with me! I thought it was a pretty hard brief and I missed a lot of time at the start when I had to go home for a funeral, but I think I caught up pretty well, so I'm quite pleased.

The new brief is designing an event poster and I think it might be a lot more fun.

I could do with some fun.

On my little trip to Glasgow this past Monday I purchased the softest, best feeling, most awesome t shirt that I've seen in quite a while. It was very satisfying indeed. Hello American Apparel you absolute star. Also I had my interview for Camp America and it went swimmingly. I do so hope to be spending next summer in the U S of A, roasting some marshmallows at a campfire, teaching kids about painting and pitching a tent in the wilderness, worrying about bears and chipmunks.

Just a little update on where I've been going with this second brief from uni. I've been given a watch and clock company, and have decided to call it Mutoko. Got the name from a town in Zimbabwe, which is where my celebrity, Robert Mugabe, is the president! I think the name is actually pretty awesome and the lecturers agreed. I'm quite happy with how it's looking, just got a few more things to get on with and then i'll be all done. Just thought i'd stick one of the versions up as i'm feeling quite excited about it. Just hope they don't change their mind at the crit. I would rather die.

It's November!

I feel like I've been totally neglecting the hell out of my blog and I actually missed writing on this. So yeah it's November now! Only 51 days until Christmas boys and girls!! Oh the joy. November so far has been pretty uneventful I'd say. On the first I had to phone in sick to work because I was physically dying of the worst hangover ever, but it was kind of made better by someone spending the day with me and helping me feel better. They get a big thumbs up. Also did not get paid by the stupid people at New Look, so I was a bit gutted seeing as I had so many plans for my moneys! Went to the Fireworks which was a lovely night. And also went to see Burn After Reading. Which is infact awesome, and everyone should now go to see it.

I have a really awful cold or something, and have a pretty sweet swollen gland. Add to this that I have somehow pulled a muscle in my chest from coughing like someone who has the plague, I'm not looking or feeling so spectacular at the moment.

What I'd like is some blackcurrant lemsip and a hug.

Oh, and also to be paid for Glasgow on Monday. That would be genius.

HALLOWE'EN

So it's finally Hallowe'en! I must say I am extremely excited about it this year. Actually, I'm excited about it EVERY year. It's such an awesome day. This year Lauren, Michael and I have decided to dress up as Zombies. This is the first time in my life that I've dressed up as something scary. When I was young my mum would always dress me up as princesses and Snow White and Bumble Bees, and when I was old enough to choose what I wanted, I wanted to look pretty and kind of stayed with the whole princess side of hallowe'en. I've had some pretty awesome costumes thanks to Lauren, who puts up with my constant MAKE IT SHORTER attitude, and she always manages to make me look good, no matter what I want to dress as, she is amazing at making it happen. She gets the old sewing machine and scissors out and I bark orders at her and she never murders me. I proper love her.

Almost as much as I love Hallowe'en.

It was once produced on weekly basis for newspapers such as the UK Guardian, the Ottawa Express and the Baltimore City Paper. This new brief is about corporate identity and it's been a bit of an arse really. I've been proper worried about it since we were given it since I had to go home for a week so missed like valuable thinking time. But yesterday I showed them my (extremely late) moodboard and it went swimmingly and now I kind of feel pretty alreet about it. I was thinking we had to sort of stick to what was on our moodboards, but we can go ridiculously further as long as it can be related back to it so I'm kind of feeling less panicked. It's all good.

Think I shall sit today and get some messy materials out and just make a mess in my sketchbook and hopefully I will become inspired.

I'm actually feeling a bit inspired today. Ew.

I've just found my Diana+ pictures that I've had developed and I forgot how much I love them. I've also got to give my love to the old Fisheye camera, for it brought me and Boydy much joy this summer. We actually went on trips for the sole purpose of using Mr. Fisheye.
